The 411 on Ultrasounds
What Is An Ultrasound?
Ultrasounds (also known as sonograms), work by using sound waves that stimulate the tissues in the body (don’t worry you can’t hear them – the frequencies aren’t something that the human ear can pick up). The stimulation provided by an ultrasound procedure gives us the ability to view and monitor things like the flow of blood and the movement in your (or your baby’s) internal organs, muscles, tendons and blood vessels.
What Do We Use Ultrasounds For?
In addition to being used during pregnancy to ensure you and your baby are happy and healthy, we also use ultrasounds to look at your uterus and ovaries if you are having symptoms.
