Fun Family NH Happenings for August

As quickly as summer begins, it’s over. Soon we’ll be going back to school shopping and preparing for crisp fall days and falling leaves. Before that, though, don’t miss celebrating August with some great family-friendly activities. Here are just a few:

Suncook Valley Rotary Hot Air Balloon Rally, August 3-5, Pittsfield, NH. If the incredible sight of hot air balloons isn’t enough, families can check out the entertainment midway, helicopter rides, a river raft regatta and events such as a pancake breakfast, fireworks, and the Super Night Glow of illuminated balloons against the night sky. Attend free, but be prepared to pay for midway rides and food.

Hay Day Festival, August 12 The Fells Estate, Newbury, NH. Enjoy old-time summer fun at this annual celebration featuring games, music, children’s art projects, a petting zoo, face painting and much more. The estate itself is a family-friendly destination with lovely nature trails, a Fairy Village, and guided tours of the main house and gardens.

Festival of Fireworks, August 18, Jaffrey, NH. Why should fireworks be limited to the Fourth of July? If you and your children love a good fireworks display, check out this event sponsored by Atlas Pyrovision and the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce. You’ll find something for everyone with carnival rides, games, live entertainment, and delicious food.
